Archbishop Sentamu’s pilgrimage visit to Sherburn CE VC Primary School

We were visited today, May 10th by Archbishop Sentamu.  The Archbishop arrived at 11:45 and visited our two classes at work, he was enthusiastically greeted by the children, especially some of the younger ones!

The Archbishop and his party took lunch, (pizza and salad followed by lemon sponge), with us in the hall sitting with the children.  He was quizzed by them, and other children, throughout lunch.

Some of the questions included:

How many churches were in the diocese?

Does he have a bodyguard?

What was his favourite hymn?

How many times had he met the Queen?

How did he become the Archbishop?

After lunch the whole school retired to the school field for photos and a visit to our spiritual garden.  After a cup of tea, we said our goodbyes and the party journeyed on up the hill to Weaverthorpe.

It was a joy to welcome the Archbishop and some of the children were visibly moved, they will remember the visit for a long time to come.
