Welcome back!

Myself and Mrs Dobson hope you have all had a restful summer break and are all ready for the next academic year.

Over the first few weeks we will be welcoming in our new year 3s, making sure they know the routines and expectations in class 2. This can be a scary jump for some and we ask that you encourage your child to be positive.

Mr Cash will be working with class 2 every Monday and Tuesday for this term. He will be teaching Science, DT/Art and ICT.

Our main topic for the term is biomes. We will be looking at what a biome is, and why they occur in the world. As part of our topic, we will be looking at the human impact on various biomes around the world and how they are changing over time because of this.

Literacy will be planned alongside our topic of biomes. While learning about the different biomes, we will be writing a report about a particular biome, with the aim to create our own documentary to show the rest of the class. We will also spend some time looking through the book Someone Swallowed Stanley, which focuses on plastic pollution in the ocean. This will lead into new reports and letter writing about the current issues of human impact in the various biomes.

Please ensure that you listen to your child read as often as possible. It really is crucial at this point in their learning life, and will make a huge difference to their attitude towards learning and their confidence. Children who learn to read quickly at this early stage are significantly more successful later in life!

We will be looking at several topics in maths this term, covering areas such as:

*numbers and the number system

*graphs and data

Please ensure that your child has their PE kit in school at all times.

Homework will be given out on Thursday and expected back the following Tuesday, please make sure your child practices their spellings.

If you have any questions or wish to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to either come in to see me or ring me at school.

Thank you for your continued support.

Miss Boustead
